The first thing you should do
We recommend that you check your cover. This Policy Booklet contains details of what is covered. Your policy schedule will show what sections you have in force
You should:
- Urgently inform the Police and obtain a crime or lost property reference number if property is lost or stolen or theft or malicious damage is suspected.
- Contact us as soon as possible.
- Take all reasonable steps to recover missing property.
- Take all reasonable steps to prevent further damage.
What you must do after making your claim:
- Tell us and provide full details in writing as soon as possible if someone is holding you or your family responsible for damage to their property or bodily injury to them. You must also send us any writ or summons, letter of claim or other documentation as soon as possible.
- If we ask, you must send us written details of your claim within 30 days. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
- Provide at your own expense all reports, certificated plans, specification information and assistance that we may need.
What you must not do:
- Admit or deny any claim made by a third party against you or your family or make any agreement with them.
- Abandon any property for us to deal with.
- Dispose of any damaged items as we may need to see them.
Our promise
- You will speak to a knowledgeable and trained member of staff who can discuss the claim and explain the next steps.
- We will call you back when promised.
- We will provide you with regular updates on your claim.
