Administering medication
Your vet may prescribe tablets to be given to your animal as follow-on treatment at home. It is important that your animal gets the full dose, so avoid crushing tablets or giving them in food or drink. As this process is not very pleasant for the animal it may require two people to handle the tablet administering, one to hold and calm the dog, and one to insert the tablet.
- Using the thumb and index finger of one hand, push the skin at the side of the upper muzzle in behind the big canine teeth and tilt the head gently backwards.
- Hold the tablet between the thumb and the index finger of the other hand and push it as far back as possible on the tongue.
- Close the mouth and rub the throat gently until the pet swallows.
