Scotland
- Scots are the most savvy in safeguarding their income holding the highest percentage (26%) of employment cover policies across the UK, compared with just 17% of the population in the North East and 19% in Wales
- Home contents are at the top of the protection ladder with 75% having a policy. This compares with the South East where only 67% of people have home contents cover
- Under a fifth (17%) taking out private healthcare cover, significantly less than in the South East where 27% have healthcare policies)
North West
- More likely to have home contents protection than any other type of cover with over two–thirds (67%) taking out a policMore likely to have home contents protection than any other type of cover with nearly three-quarters (71%) taking out a policy
- Private health cover is last on the shopping list with just one fifth (21%) taking out a policy. Additionally, only 24% take out critical illness cover, compared to one third (33%) in the West Country
- The North West is inline with the national average when it comes to planning for their future; 56% of people have a pension
North East
- The North East is among the most forward looking areas of the country with 60% of its population holding a pension compared to only 46% in Wales and 52% in the South East
- Homes and contents are the main priority here, with three-quarters (78%) owning home contents insurance and 69% taking out building insurance
- Are three times more likely to protect their property than protect themselves with just one fifth (21%) taking out private health insurance
Midlands
- Residents here are more likely to purchase home contents protection than any other type of cover with over three-quarters (77%) holding a policy
- 60% of people in the Midlands have a pension -compared with Wales where less then half (46%) have a pension policy
- One quarter of people hold private health policies in the Midlands, above the national average (23%) and significantly more than the West Country where only 15% of the population have a policy
Wales
- Life insurance is a big priority for the Welsh with 58% taking out policies, only beaten by the Scots where 61% of the population has life insurance cover
- Compared to the rest of the nation, under a half of the Welsh (46%) hold a pension, this is below the national average of 56%
- With an average of 4.2 insurance policies, the Welsh are amongst the least protected people in the UK, along with the South East population
South East
- People living in the South East are the most likely to purchase private health cover: 27% of the region hold policies, as opposed to just 15% in the West Country
- Pensions are low on the priority list in the South East with only 52% having a pension in place, that's only 6% higher than the Welsh who are at the bottom of the pension league and 8% lower than the pension leaders in the North East and the Midlands
- The South East comes bottom in the league for home contents protection. Only 67% have home contents insurance, below the national average of 73%
South West
- Compared to the rest of the country health isn't a protection priority for the South West where only 15% of the population have private health cover, compared to 27% in the South East
- Buildings in the South West are amongst the best protected. 68% of the population have a buildings insurance policy, second only to the North East (69%) and way ahead of the South East where only 55% of people hold policies
- People in the South West are a fifth more likely to protect their home contents than to hold a pension -77% have home contents protection compared to 57% of those with a pension
