(10/01/2005) Statement about South East Asia disaster
AXA Insurance, the largest holiday insurer in the UK and provider of travel insurance to customers of TUI and Thomas Cook, is continuing to work in partnership with tour operators and the authorities in the region to provide assistance to travellers affected by the natural disaster in South East Asia. We estimate that there were up to 5,000 AXA policyholders in the area at the time.
Through our regional offices, we are providing medical help and financial support to those policyholders who have been injured as a result of this disaster and, where necessary, are assisting the injured to return to the UK. A number of medical personnel including senior medical officers, working for AXA Assistance in Singapore and Thailand, have already been deployed to the area, where they are able to provide assistance on the ground and to date have dealt with some 50-60 medical cases.
In addition a dedicated claims team has been set-up to handle claims for personal belongings and luggage, as well as to provide assistance in getting new door locks and keys, where keys may have been lost in the disaster.
At AXA we are continuing to monitor the situation and will act to help and support our policyholders.
