(14/09/2007) Glasgow firm takes AXA "Business Oscars" crown
AXA last night announced that Glasgow firm BiP Solutions (www.bipsolutions.com) is the winner of the Scottish AXA Small to Medium Sized Business of the Year Award category of this year's prestigious National Business Awards for Scotland - dubbed by the prime minister as the 'Business Oscars'.
The Shawfield firm was selected from a shortlist of five companies representing the best small to medium sized business in Scotland at a prestigious national awards ceremony at The Hilton Hotel in Glasgow last night.
The award recognises BiP Solutions, which was set up in 1984 to facilitate business between the public and private sectors, for its entrepreneurship and innovation, and highlights the importance of management excellence in maintaining a successful business today and continuing to grow it in the future.
The firm provides the public and private sectors with procurement information and services include e-tendering and supplier accreditation solutions, contracts information services in print and electronic formats, best practice publications, training, consultancy and events management.
Darrell Sansom, the AXA Scotland Judge said: "I am delighted that BiP Solutions managed to fight off stiff competition from an outstanding list of entries to be crowned the Scottish AXA Small to Medium Sized Business of the Year. BiP Solutions was chosen as it was felt it identified its customer segments most effectively; as well as responding to customer needs with both innovative and rigorous solutions. Its ability to drive market leading solutions, which has now been supported by the award of a key governmental contract in this area, marked it out as the clear winner. Our warmest congratulations go to them."
BiP Solutions staved off stiff competition from a strong shortlist to become crowned as the national winner. The other nominees were:
- Head Resourcing, Edinburgh (www.headresourcing.com) – a growing recruitment firm working in IT, HR procurement, sales, accounting & finance, and most recently, engineering, oil and gas.
- McDonald Engineers, Glenrothes (www.mcdonald-engineers.com) – manufacturer of copper hot water cylinders for use in domestic, industrial and commercial installations. Its products are used widely in the Scottish building industry, and recently to an increasing extent in England, for both new build and replacement installations
- Maximillion, Kirknewton (www.maximillion.co.uk) – provides conference and incentive management services for the corporate and public sector within the UK and internationally.
- Legal Services UK, Dundee (www.legalsuk.com) – provides a will writing and estate planning service directly to the public through its UK-wide network of over 100 trained consultants. The innovative firm also offers home visits anywhere in the UK, saving clients' time.
