First Aid Guide for Dogs and Cats.

Bleeding

For minor cuts and grazes:

  • Apply a sterile pad over the wound so that the bandage doesn't stick to the fur.
  • Cover the wound with a light dressing of gauze. Never apply a dressing too tight as you may cut off the blood supply.
  • If excessive bleeding or spurting of blood occurs apply a heavy dressing and pressure.
  • Seek veterinary advice as antibiotics may be necessary.

Deep cuts to the limbs will usually need stitching so contact your vet for advice.
