Travelling

When travelling with your cat, always ensure you have a safe container, preferably a specifically designed carrier. Never use a cardboard container as cats can escape from these very easily. It is safer if the carrier is unable to move so secure it on the seat using the seatbelt or adjust the seating positions so that it may be lodged in the footwell.

Never allow your cat to travel loose in the car as the chances of a cat sitting still for a whole journey are very slim. Ensure that your cat has the opportunity to use the toilet prior to travel especially if the journey will be long. If it is a hot day, ensure the car has an open window or is otherwise well ventilated.

Never leave your cat inside a hot car if you happen to stop for a break. The inside of a car gets very hot very quickly and cats can suffer from heatstroke the same as humans. It is also a good idea if you feed your cat two hours in advance of travelling as the car journey may cause an upset stomach leading to accidents.
