Fleas
Unfortunately, it is a certainty that your dog will pick up fleas during its lifetime.
You will usually notice the problem because of your dog scratching but you may also notice small brown spots or insects crawling through its fur. Fleas are a problem no matter how clean you keep your home and how clean your dog keeps itself and the fleas you see on your pet are only part of the problem. Fortunately, there are now products available for both elimination and prevention.
Flea treatments target grown, egg laying fleas and generally work within 2_ hours. Some fleas that are licked up very shortly before the treatment is given, can lay eggs before they die causing the problem to recur but this can be resolved with Insect Growth Regulators. These will prevent flea eggs from hatching so if any are laid within the 2_ hours following treatment, they will merely fall from your dog and be vacuumed up when you are cleaning. This integrated approach is now offered by single products which are readily available. Please be sure to follow the instructions carefully.
