Pet Insurance Guide - What you need to know about Third Party Liability and Pet Insurance
Cats are considered by the courts to be 'free spirits' and therefore you are not legally responsible for your cat's actions. The actions of dogs however, are considered to be the responsibility of the owner. So if your dog were to run in to the road and cause a car to swerve and crash, you could personally be held liable for any resultant costs to property and life. AXA's pet insurance provides you with up to £2 million of third party liability cover, should such an unfortunate incident arise.
Also, if your pet was responsible for accidental damage to someone else's property AXA will cover you, up to £500. Most insurers do not provide any cover for accidental damage caused by your pet.
Further details of AXA's pet insurance covers and the exclusions and limitations can be found in the policy summary and the policy booklet.
