Pet Insurance Guide - How Pet Insurance works with the Pet Travel Scheme

You can find out more about the government's Pet Travel Scheme by visiting the Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) website. Many pet insurers do not extend their cover abroad, leaving you in the lurch if your pet requires treatment abroad. AXA's pet insurance does continue to cover your pet for vet's fees abroad, up to £1,000. AXA also provides cover for certain emergency costs, such as additional transportation and accommodation costs should your pet go missing before you return home.

Whilst your pet is travelling under the government's Pet Travel Scheme there should be no need for your pet to be quarantined on re-entry to the UK. If however there is a problem, AXA's pet insurance policy will cover the cost if your pet has to go into quarantine due to illness.

Further details of AXA's pet insurance covers and the exclusions and limitations can be found in the policy summary and the policy booklet.
