Travel Guides.
With climate change already impacting on our lives, we all need to do our bit to help keep this phenomenon under control. Transport emissions make up a significant proportion of the UK's carbon emissions, but by making changes to the way we travel, and the holidays we take, we can all contribute to maintaining the delicate ecological balance of our planet.
When we think of going on holiday, most of us would instinctively think about taking a flight somewhere. But going on holiday doesn't have to mean taking a flight. There are alternative, greener ways of getting to many of the destinations to which we might ordinarily fly. With the newly opened high speed line from London St. Pancras station it is now faster to take the train than it is to fly, to many continental European cities. Whilst train travel is one of the greener modes of travel, ferry, car, and coach travel are also less polluting than air travel.
Air travel is the most polluting form of transport, but admittedly, for certain destinations, it is all but unavoidable. Airlines and aircraft manufacturers however are doing their bit in helping to reduce the industry's carbon emissions.
As well as, or alternatively to, altering our mode of transport, we can adapt our holiday destinations with the threat of global warming in mind. Consider travelling to destinations closer to home to reduce transport emissions. Of course it is not even necessary to go abroad on holiday. There are plenty of tourist attractions and holiday resorts in the UK. There is enough of interest in the UK to draw in around 32 million tourists from abroad every year.
It is now also possible to offset your effective carbon emissions from your holiday travel by investing in various carbon offset schemes.
