Women in Finance Charter

Creating an inclusive culture where everyone feels they belong

Creating gender equality remains a priority for us and we continue to put solutions in place to help us achieve it. Some of our highlights include:

  • Flexible working - We know that one size doesn't fit all. So, depending on your unique circumstances, how your team operates, and our customers’ needs, we offer a blend of home and office-based working.
  • We’re an accredited Menopause Friendly Employer. And our menopause meet-ups are hugely popular with employees, these allow women to gain peer-to-peer support whilst hearing from our Menopause Practitioner.
  • We no longer ask candidates for their current salary, recognising that this can perpetuate lower salaries for underrepresented groups.
  • With 26%* of our workforce caring for elderly relatives or a disabled adult, we’ve teamed up with Carers UK and launched Carers@AXA, an employee network which is providing vital support and help for our carers, including a new caregivers policy which allows our people to take up to five days of fully paid leave.
  • Our Balance Employee Network focuses on gender equality, parents and allyship, and has grown by 53% in 2023. The network has successfully provided mentoring opportunities for colleagues, promoted Women’s health through our partnership with HeyGirls, and has been recognised for two industry awards as the “Gender Equality Network of the Year”.

The Charter

The Women in Finance Charter, from HM Treasury, asks financial services companies to lead by example and commit to the progression and appointment of women into senior roles to help drive gender equality in the industry. We’ve committed to the Charter since 2017 because we want to build a diverse workforce that represents our dynamic customer base and, because we believe it’s the right thing to do.

Our commitment

We’ve set ourselves an ambitious target of having 40% of women in leader roles by the end of 2026. We’re proud to say that as of September 2023, 42.4% of our leader roles are held by women. We’re not stopping there though and are continuing to move forward, drive industry change and achieve gender parity.

We have continued year on year to increase the number of women at the top of the organisation, but our work doesn’t stop there.

We want to ensure AXA UK&I is a place where people love to work wherever they are in the organisation and whatever their life stage. That’s why we’ve focused our efforts on becoming an accredited Menopause Friendly employer, creating an Employee Network for our Carers, and during 2023 becoming the first UK insurer to receive Age-Aware Accreditation.

There is still work to be done and we remain committed in helping to create a more gender balanced Financial Services sector.
