Why Is Insurance Important for Restaurants?

As a restaurant owner it’s important that you protect your business, and your customers, in case an accident should happen. If a member of the public is injured in your restaurant or from consuming the products you sell, then you could be held liable. Similarly, if one of your employees gets hurt or falls ill as a result of working for you, you’ll be held responsible.

That’s why it’s important to have business insurance for your restaurant, so that if you need to defend yourself and your business against a claim, we’ve got your back.

Public liability insurance covers you for single incidents where a customer or member of the public is accidentally injured in your restaurant for example, by consuming a product with mislabelled allergy advice. Or, if someone’s property is damaged due to your business’ activities or products. We’ll cover you for up to £5 million as standard under our policy. Product liability insurance protects you in if a product you sell has accidentally caused harm or injury to several people. For example, if several people were to eat a meal you’ve prepared that caused them to fall ill.

Employers’ liability insurance is a legal requirement for all businesses with employees, as it’s there to protect your employees in case they get injured and fall ill as a result of working for you. We know that employees are the backbone of your business and that’s why we’ll pay up to £10m for compensation and legal costs to defend a claim made against the insured.
