At AXA, we understand that a house isn’t just another building – it’s your home. And now, more than ever, your home may play an even bigger part in your everyday life – a place to work, learn, entertain, and relax.

So how can you protect it? How can you keep it safe from unwanted surprises and costly emergencies?

An easy way to do this is to add-on home emergency cover to your home insurance policy.

What is home emergency cover?

Home emergency cover, also known as home emergency assistance, is an add-on for your home insurance for sudden or urgent issues that affect your home. It can provide temporary repairs to stop an emergency when the worst happens.

Has your boiler ever suddenly stopped working? What about a leak waking you up in the middle of the night?

Home emergency cover means you don’t have to wait around for help. You can register your home emergency claim quickly and easily online by answering a few simple questions, or call AXA’s emergency assistance line which is open 24/7, every day of the year.

Once you’ve called us, we’ll send an authorised contractor to deal with the issue. It covers you for up to £1,000 (or up to £1,500 with AXA Premier Home Insurance) for call-out fees, labour, and repair parts, protecting you from unwanted and unexpected expenses.

What does home emergency cover do?

It covers your home against those nasty surprises that no one ever wants to deal with. Some of these issues include:

Of course, some exclusions do apply to the above, so you should check your policy wording for more information.

Home emergency cover will cover sudden and unexpected issues which can cause damage to your home, make it unsafe or impossible to live in or could cause a risk to health and safety. You’ll be provided with a temporary repair (or if possible at the same time and cost, permanent) to stop the immediate emergency. This will make your home fit for living in again, until you arrange a permanent repair. It does not, however, cover non-emergencies, such as:

  • General maintenance
  • Wear and tear
  • Leaking taps
  • Broken sockets or domestic appliances
  • Power or other mains supply cuts due to external factors

Also, keep in mind that home emergency cover only covers call-out charges, labour, and any essential repair parts. So, any damage to your property and belongings are not included. This is where your buildings insurance or contents insurance would take over.

Is home emergency cover worth getting?

Although it isn’t compulsory, and is up to you to decide on, home emergency cover can offer peace of mind that you’re covered against nasty surprises that can be expensive to fix.

With AXA, it’s easy to add home emergency cover to your current AXA Plus Home Insurance or AXA Home Insurance policy. And good news if you have an AXA Premier Home Insurance policy with us as you’ll already have home emergency cover at the higher limit of £1,500 per claim. If you’re unsure what cover you currently have, don’t hesitate to contact us.
