Managing safety and compliance can be challenging for operators of small vehicle fleets so AXA Commercial is offering customers a free online health check to identify issues and signpost resources to fill knowledge gaps.

Small and medium-sized businesses often don’t have dedicated fleet managers so it’s easy for risk management to be overlooked, or for good practice not to be put in place due to a lack of awareness or experience. This can have an impact on driver and vehicle safety, and ultimately insurance premiums.

This is a simple way for customers operating smaller fleets to understand the importance of risk management and its benefits. A quick questionnaire identifies the risks most likely to result in a motor claim and identify whether they are taking the best steps to protect themselves, their businesses and their drivers.

There are lots of small things our customers could be doing for very little cost, or in some cases no cost at all, that could significantly improve the safety of their fleet. The end result could be fewer accidents, and that’s better for everyone.

The online health check can be completed on a mobile phone or tablet and features around 30 simple yes/no questions covering key health and safety and compliance issues related to occupational road risk.

The check provides an overall score together with individual ratings for sections on driver management, in-vehicle technology and policies and procedures. Any gaps in knowledge are highlighted and AXA’s in-house and partner tools are signposted to help customers improve their risk management strategies.

This isn’t designed to be punitive or onerous, the aim is to provide customers with valuable guidance that can benefit their businesses. There are no consequences of completing the health check, it has no impact on their insurance and isn’t compulsory.

However, for those customers who choose to engage, we are opening the door to AXA’s risk management expertise and highlighting tools we can offer to support them – and it’s all completely free of charge.

The online health check, provided in association with Fleet Risk Review, explains to customers why managing risk is important, why specific questions are being asked and why they should be putting safety in place such as checking drivers’ licences and issuing employees with driver handbooks.
